LCL FAQ

LCL Shipping FAQ: China to USA

Answers to the questions importers ask most about China-to-US LCL shipping — cargo preparation, routes and ports, quotes and costs, delivery, receiving locations and insurance. Every answer reflects the current service scope on this website.

LCL BASICS

LCL basics and booking decisions

Is LCL always cheaper than a full container?

No single cargo volume establishes the best choice for every shipment. Compare the total origin, ocean and destination charges, along with handling needs and available routing. Ask for an FCL comparison when the cargo volume or handling profile justifies it. See how the forwarding scope works.

Can an ocean freight inquiry include supplier pickup?

Record the supplier address, access conditions, package details and cargo-ready date. Pickup is an additional scope item to confirm; it should not be assumed to be part of the ocean rate.

Does consolidation include repacking or product inspection?

Do not assume it does. Repacking, inspection, labeling, storage or other handling requirements should be described and accepted before cargo is delivered to the receiving location.

What happens if the cargo details change?

Share the revised dimensions, weight, count or commodity information before dispatch. Changes can affect acceptance, charges and the receiving arrangement, so the earlier quotation may need review.

PREPARATION

Preparing your cargo

How should I calculate the cargo volume?

Measure the outside of each package. Length × width × height in metres gives the volume in cubic metres. Calculate different package sizes separately, then add them together. Check the shipping guide for the full preparation checklist.

ROUTES & PORTS

Routes, ports and destination planning

What is the difference between the origin port and the supplier’s location?

A China-to-US LCL route combines origin receiving, consolidation, the ocean movement and destination handling. Your preferred origin port may differ from the supplier’s location, so include any origin pickup requirement and state the supplier address separately to make the inquiry cover the actual starting point.

Which China origin ports can be specified?

Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Qingdao or Xiamen may be specified as inquiry preferences. Confirm the nominated receiving facility and cargo cutoff before dispatching goods.

What does a destination guide cover?

Each destination guide covers gateway context, cargo release and delivery planning for that US port region, and helps distinguish the named port from the final delivery address.

How should direct and transshipment routings be compared?

Compare direct and transshipment options using the offered service details, available cutoffs and the complete destination arrangement. No direct-service claim is published for any origin-destination pair on this site; routings are confirmed for each shipment.

Can delivery extend beyond the destination port?

Delivery scope can be port or door. Distinguish the named port from the final delivery address, and state collection or onward delivery requirements when preparing the inquiry.

COSTS & QUOTING

Quotes, costs and delivery

What should be ready before requesting a routing quote?

Treat cargo readiness, the receiving cutoff, estimated departure, estimated arrival and cargo release as separate milestones. Service scope, applicable charges and cargo acceptance are confirmed before booking.

How do I request a quote?

Start on the quote page with your origin, US destination, commodity, number of packages, weight and volume, cargo-ready date, delivery preference and ZIP code. Add any notes such as packaging, special cargo attributes or delivery address. The team confirms service scope, applicable charges and cargo acceptance before booking.

What is the difference between port and door delivery?

Port collection and door delivery cover different activities. Confirm destination handling, customs responsibilities, collection and final delivery separately in the quotation.

Are estimated departure and arrival dates guaranteed?

Estimated milestones depend on the confirmed booking and may change with operating conditions. Check the latest information before planning dependent activities.

Is cargo insurance available?

Cargo insurance is not included in the ocean rate and can be arranged separately on request. Our liability for cargo loss or damage is limited to the refund of the freight paid plus USD 3 per kilogram, as set out in the Terms & Conditions.
